Riccarton Road Upgrade (Harakeke St to Matipo St)

What

We are upgrading the sewer and water mains followed by a new road pavement surface with bus priority measures and associated streetscape enhancements.

Why

The old sewer and water pipes are at the end of their life and are in need of replacement before they fail. The bus priority measures will improve travel times for the 800 buses that pass through each day. Streetscape enhancements with new street furniture and landscaping will make Riccarton Road a more pleasant environment for visitors and shoppers.

Where

Riccarton Road - from Harakeke Street to Matipo Street

When

Investigation potholing work will start on 18 February 2019 at night for two weeks followed by water and sewer trenching starting on 4 March 2019

Contact

The contractor is Fulton Hogan LTD phone 0800 275 342 (24 hours 7 days). Advise us if you have specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries, planned works

From February 18th 2019, potholing to check for underground services will begin, along with some tree removal and kerb realignment at pinch points along the road. This work will happen at night.

Water and sewer main replacement works will start early March and at the following locations:
• Corner of Riccarton Rd and Harakeke St
• Corner of Riccarton Rd and Straven Rd
• Corner of Riccarton Rd and Division St

The bulk of this work will happen during the day but there will be times when the contractor will carry out specific tasks at night when the roads are quieter and less congested. The contractor will give 48 hours notice to affected parties before any night works start.

Work on the new road surface will start late 2019 and carry on through into 2020. The bulk of this work will be undertaken at night to minimise disruption to the public and to increase productivity.

There may be times when vehicle access to your property is restricted. This will be temporary and our contractor will door knock beforehand so you can move your vehicles if necessary.

Temporary traffic management will be installed. Please follow this at all times. Increased construction noise disturbance may be encountered but will be kept to a minimum.

Traffic delays may occur whilst the works happen and temporary footpath closures or cordoned off areas may be encountered during construction.

The work period is weather and road operations dependent.
