Velo à l’est – Te Ara Ōtākaro

Christchurch’s annual cycling festival Biketober is back and this year – the 10th anniversary of the earthquakes – includes a group ride exploring the past, present and future of the residential Red Zone.

The event features a range of stops, including Avebury House, the Richmond Community Garden, the John Taylor memorial and Di Magdin’s River Road garden.

Speakers from groups including greening the red zone will join the ride, providing commentary about the history of the area, its flora and fauna, and the future vision for a site four times bigger than Hagley Park.

Meet at the Avon Loop Boardwalk for a welcome and introduction.

There will also be an optional extension from 1.30pm to continue to New Brighton for lunch and a swim at He Puna Taimoana (New Brighton Thermal Pools).
