From a dazzling display of virtuosity to intriguing sultry warmth, from mellow moments to upbeat swing, this is the concert that will keep you smiling into the weeks ahead!

Described as 'sonic fireworks that dazzle with all their brilliance' and 'characterized by inspirational musicianship', the Classical Jazz Quartet (CJQ) brings an eclectic mix of music - from the swing era to their own creative and imaginative adaptations of classics, infusing them with toe tapping rhythms and jazzy harmonies.

Join CJQ on their musical journey, beginning with the Baroque era re-imagined - Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor, J.S. Bach's Arioso, through CPE Bach's Solfeggietto, Brinson's playful arrangement of Delibes' popular Flower Duet, the wild Spanish rhythms of Piazzolla and Sarasate, to finally arrive into Modern Times with Ogermann's ethereal arrangement of Charlie Chaplin's Smile and a handful of jaunty jazz standards.

With informative and engaging commentary by the performers, and a wonderful array of music, it's all set for an uplifting feel good afternoon ahead.

CJQ consists of four outstanding local musicians: Cathy Irons (violin), Barry Brinson (piano), Michael Davis (bass) and Doug Brush (drums). Each a recognised musician in their own field, the four musicians revel in getting together, ignoring convention and freely cross the boundaries of music with conviction and delight. All have extensive NZ and international experience.
