Escape to “The Riveria of the South” – the small picturesque seaside town of Akaroa. Every two years the town transforms itself and comes alive to celebrate its unique history (French, German and Maori) at the Akaroa French Festival.

Entertainment, food, history, culture, markets, circus, there’s something for everyone with a whole weekend of exciting activities to enjoy. The festival begins on Friday night with a family-friendly evening hosting the opening ceremony, silent disco, outdoor movie, and live entertainment.

Early Saturday morning watch the living history re-enactment at the Landings production on the main beach, followed by the parade to the Recreation Ground where the Le Jour du Marché (Market Day) is already in action. Live music fills the air during the day, while the tastebuds are satisfied with food and wine as you peruse the markets. Iconic events like the Waiters Race and the Cock Crowing competition will also delight once again!

Saturday evening hosts the not-to-be-missed adult ticketed cabaret, with an incredible array of music and entertainment all night. Sunday will see an antique and La Brocante style market, bands, buskers, and a Circotica Circus workshop for the children and performance before the festival comes to an end for another year. Ooh La La!
