Provisional Local Alcohol Policy

On 28 May 2015, Christchurch City Council approved notification of its provisional Local Alcohol Policy (LAP). The provisional LAP is now subject to appeal. All appeals must be lodged with the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA) by Tuesday 7

C Sullivan - Council Secretary

Except for the Police and the Medical Officer of Health, only people who made a submission on the draft Christchurch City Council LAP can appeal against an element of the provisional LAP. The only ground on which an element of the provisional LAP can be appealed against is that it is unreasonable in the light of the object of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 (the Act).

An appeal made under section 81 of the Act must be made by sending a notice of appeal to:

  • Post: The Secretary, Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority, Tribunals Unit, Private Bag 32-001, Featherston Street, Wellington 6146
  • Email: ARLA@justice.govt.nz

Further information including the required form for an appeal is available from ARLA:(external link)(external link)

Either before or immediately after the notice of appeal is sent to the Secretary of ARLA, a copy of the appeal must be sent to the Christchurch City Council.
