“Work is due to begin in February on upgrading the busy section of Riccarton Road between Harakeke Street and Matipo Street,’’ says Christchurch City Council Transport Operations Manager Steffan Thomas.

“Before the work gets underway, we want to provide businesses and residents with an opportunity to talk to us about what is involved and the staging of the project, meet the contractor and to share their ideas on how we can minimise the disruption while the work is done,’’ Mr Thomas says.

The work involves replacing and upgrading damaged underground pipes and rebuilding the road to accommodate bus priority measures. As part of the work a tree-planted median strip will be added between Clarence and Matipo streets.

Fulton Hogan has been contracted to do the work, which is expected to be completed by December 2020.

Drop-in sessions where residents and businesses can learn more about the upgrade work and discuss any issues will be held on:

  • Tuesday, 22 January, between 12.30 and 2.30pm, at Yolin Church, 180 Clarence Street.
  • Wednesday, 23 January, between 5.30 and 7.30pm, at Yolin Church, 180 Clarence Street.
  • Thursday, 24 January, between midday and 3pm, at Westfield Mall.
