People are being invited to immerse themselves in the city’s art scene at Christchurch’s first Art Do celebration featuring creative culinary chefs, designers and rock star artists.

Art, fashion, food, drink, design and music will intertwine for one special night at Christchurch Art Gallery on Saturday, 27 October.

Art Gallery Director Blair Jackson describes Art Do as “the city’s most ambitious art fundraising event to date”.

Christchurch Art Gallery will host a special Art Do this month.

Christchurch Art Gallery will host a special Art Do this month.

“We have bold ambitions for our future art collaborations, making new and adventurous works possible,” Mr Jackson says.

“At Art Do, we hope to raise at least $100,000 to add to our art collection as we take an innovative approach to our annual gala celebration,” he says.

“It’s all about the immersive art of fashion, food, drinks, music and design – offering a stylish palette in stunning spaces where everyone can mingle.

“We believe that Art Do embodies the best of art, acting as a catalyst for greater creativity in our city.”

Singapore’s Burnt Ends head chef Jake Kellie will create stylish food stands, along with Auckland’s Tom Hishon (Orphans Kitchen and Daily Bread) and Gatherings’ Alex Davies. Cake and champagne surprises will add to the tasty mix as Cakes by Anna teams up with Christchurch-born artist Dan Arps to fashion some sweet treats.

Leading designer Karen Walker will also style a bar and put on a signature cocktail, as well as bringing fashion pieces for art supporters to take home.

Several of New Zealand’s favourite artists – including Shane Cotton, Shannon Te Ao, Nathan Pohio, Tony de Lautour and Holly Best – will take to the decks to play their favourite records as art fans move in and out of changing spaces architecturally designed by Warren and Mahoney.

Special editions will also be the order of the night as Christchurch artist Zina Swanson and Auckland’s Judy Millar collaborate with Three Boys Brewery and Greystone Wines to present the Three Boys Brewery X Zina Swanson 2018 art-beer edition and the Greystone Wines X Judy Millar 2018 art-wine edition.
