Crusaders take on the Chiefs

If you fancy some sporting action, head to AMI Stadium on Saturday night to watch the Crusaders take on the Chiefs in the Super Rugby semi-final.  Kick-off is at 7.35pm and it is going to be a great game. Tickets are available through TicketDirect. Come along the show your support for the red and blacks. Go the Crusaders! 

See art with a purpose

Head to the Arts Centre’s new community exhibition space, Pūmanawa, for Restore – a fundraising exhibition that features limited edition, behind-the-scenes photographs of the Arts Centre’s restoration taken by leading Christchurch photographer Johannes van Kan.

The photographs are for sale, with all proceeds from the exhibition going towards the restoration of the Arts Centre, an independent charity held in trust for the people of Canterbury and its visitors. Restoration of more than half of the site is now complete but the remainder cannot be finished unless another $35 million is fundraised.

Restore is the Arts Centre upstairs in the Boys' High Building 28 Worcester Boulevard until August 13. The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 5pm and van Kan will be available to talk about the artworks each Sunday at 11am.

Fashion swap

If you have some threads you're not wearing any more, why not trade them in at the Prebbleton Clothes Swap on Sunday from 1pm until 3pm at the Prebbleton Community Cottage, cnr of Blakes and Springs Rd. The items on offer will depend on what is dropped off to swap so it's one big lucky dip.
Clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery, scarves and unopened beauty products will be available and clothing needs to be clean and in good condition. Drop off clothing before the event and cash entry on the day is $5. 

Go out for a laugh

Kiwi comedian Rhy Darby, now based in Los Angeles, made his name playing the socially-challenged Murray in the TV show Flight of the Conchords. Tonight and tomorrow night he will perform his show Mystic Time Bird in Christchurch at the Isaac Theatre Royal. 

In Mystic Time Bird Darby turns to the world of ancient mysticism to find answers to the world’s problems. In doing so, he discovers that he was a bird in a past life, and this knowledge takes him on an unexpected path.  Tickets through Ticketek

Watch a musical

The recent movie was a hit, now Burnside High School, in conjunction with MTI Music Theatre International, is performing its version of Disney's Beauty and The Beast at the Aurora Centre for the Performing ArtsCnr Greers Rd and Memorial Ave, with the last two shows tonight and tomorrow afternoon. 

It's directed by Broadway veteran, Ravil Atlas, choreographed by Colette Inkster (Studio 42) and features a live band. Tickets are available from the Burnside High School student office, phone 03 358 8383.

Get brassy 

On Sunday Woolston Brass will perform with vocalist Kate Taylor and three instrumentalists; Cameron Pearce (Trumpet), Gywn Reynolds (Saxophone) and Scott Taitoko (Trombone). Winter Jazz is at the Charles Luney Auditorium from 3pm until 5pm showcasing jazz, swing, dixie and funk genres.
