We are upgrading wastewater infrastructure in Ilam with the installation of new, larger pipes that will help meet increasing demand from our growing city.
Work on the upgrade along Clyde and Creyke roads began in early September 2024. Clyde Road is now complete, work on Creyke Road is ongoing, and work on Maidstone Road will begin mid-2025.
The project began in early September 2024 and is expected to finish in mid-2026. It is being carried out in stages and will require one-way traffic measures to be in place to allow the work to happen. View the initial start works notice(external link).
As work continues on Creyke Road, the next phase of work is also underway, involving laying pipe across the intersection of Creyke Road, Ilam Road and Maidstone Road. This started on Wednesday 18 June 2025, and is expected to take one month to complete. View the start works notice.(external link)
Following this, work will progress along Maidstone Road, between Ilam Road and Waimairi Road. This will require a westbound one-way system through this block, which will be in place until mid-2026 when the project wraps up. A new start work notice will be distributed prior to this work starting.
A temporary one-way system is currently in place on Creyke Road, between Clyde Road and Ilam Road, for westbound traffic. Signposted detours will direct eastbound traffic around the lane closure. The speed limit is reduced to 30km/h so we can keep our workers and everyone in the area safe.
There is also a no-entry/exit on the north side of the intersection of Creyke Road with Ilam Road and Maidstone Road from 18 June to mid-July. Signposted detours will be in place.
