Community wellbeing

Communities where residents join social activities, connect with others and take part in local decisions are happier, healthier and more productive.

Providing residents and communities with opportunities to connect with each other and take responsibility for local decisions is a key focus for the Council.

The Council can't build stronger communities on its own. Working with central government agencies (such as the Canterbury District Health Board, New Zealand Police, Creative New Zealand, and Sport and Recreation New Zealand) and community organisations is important in building strong and resilient communities.
