Meeting webcasts

The Christchurch City Council webcasts and holds records of its public meetings. This is in the public interest to have transparent and accessible decision-making at public meetings.

The footage will be publicly available and can be accessed on our website. The Council holds the information through its agent Tandem Studios.

Most of the filming will cover elected members as they speak and debate at the meeting. The filming may also include shots of the public in the background and anyone speaking at public forum.

Privacy Act

The Christchurch City Council is required to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 1993.  Personal information is collected, held and used in accordance with the principles set out in that Act.  In particular, the Council will:

  1. use personal information only for the purpose for which it is collected;
  2. retain personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected;
  3. release personal information to a third party only when required to or permitted to by law, if you have authorised the release or where disclosure is connected to the purpose for which the information was collected.

Commenting on a Council Social Media Site

  • Christchurch City Council agencies share information, images and video with the public through external social media websites. Comments made by the public to these sites are reviewed and, while comments will not be edited by Council personnel, a comment may be deleted if it violates the comment policy described here.
  • Comments should be related to the posted topic for the Council's social media page or post. Christchurch City agency social media accounts are not meant for comments that do not directly relate to the purpose or topic of the social media website. 
  • You are subject to the Terms of Service (TOS) of the host site. Information (photos, videos, etc.) you share with or post to official Christchurch City Council social media pages is also subject to the TOS of the host site and may be used by the owners of the host site for their own purposes.   • Christchurch City Council social media channels are not open to comments promoting or opposing any person campaigning for election to a political office, or promotion or advertisement of a business or commercial transaction.
  • The use of obscene, threatening or harassing language is prohibited.

User-Created Content

Users are welcome to submit or post content, including photographs and videos, to an official Christchurch City Council social media site where the channel allows users to post content, the content meets the standards articulated in this Customer Use Policy and pertains to the subject of the social media site. Users may only post their own, original content. Reproduced or borrowed content that reasonably appears to violate third party rights will be deleted.


News Feeds Use

You may use the Christchurch City Council news feeds in order to display Council content on your website, blog or other product or service for personal and business use provided you comply with the below terms of use:

  • You must display the Council feeds that you subscribe to in full and accurately on your website, blog or other product or service.

  • Council content may contain content you consider objectionable or offensive, or which may not be suitable for young audiences. If you permit a child to access, view or listen to Council

    content you are solely responsible for deciding whether or not that content is appropriate. 

  • If you are a Business you will require users of your product or service to comply with equivalent terms for their use of feeds.
