What type of project is this?

The types of projects are defined based on the category of work or consultation required ie:

Type Definition
City Plan Variation Changes to the proposed plan. These may change the objectives, policies or rules in the City Plan. The Council is required to publicly notify a Variation, and the public have rights of submission and ultimately appeal to the Environment Court within specified timeframes.
Civic/Community Issues Large or city wide community projects ie Libraries, Art Galleries
Community/Social Issues Social policy issues, ie Gambling Venue Policy, Alcohol Policy
Land Drainage/Storm Water Projects to do with land drainage and storm water collection
Notified Resource Consent Provides an opportunity for interested parties to lodge submissions supporting or opposing notified resource consent applications. Once the submission period has closed, a hearing is arranged. Those who have lodged submissions, the applicant and Council officers then have the opportunity to present their case to a Council Hearings Panel, which normally comprises two Councillors and a Community Board Member. The Council's decision is normally posted to all parties within three weeks of the hearing.
Parks/Reserves Projects on a park or reserve, including foot bridges, trees, playgrounds
Pools, leisure facilities Upgrades or development of pool or stadium facilities
Street Works Projects that are occurring on a street surface (ie excludes underground Sewer/Water projects), including cycleway, footpaths, Kerb and Channel, signals, Vehicle bridges, landscaping
Waste Water/Sewer Projects to do with any part of the Waste Water/sewer network, including the Sewerage Treatment Plant.
Waterways Projects to do with rivers, streams or other waterways
Water Supply Projects to do with Water Supply

Projects are researched to find out the groups of people they may affect these are broken down into the following categories:

  • People with disabilities
  • General community

What stage is this project at?

A stage is a major milestone of a project. Project stages are managed according to type eg City works would be managed differently to Social issues. These are undertaken over a specified period of time, once completed will be updated or another stage created.

Stage Definition
Planning-Investigation/Research The major project team will plan, investigate and research project details in consultation with the public.
Design A project design stage will undergo various drafts and approval and consultation stages before it is completed.
Implementation/Construction Plans are produced for the implementation and construction stages. Contracts are sought, approved and construction begins.
Under Maintenance Contract Contracts begin.
Notice/Communication Consultations have been and continue to be sought on various phases of the project.
