The purpose of this website is to inform the reader of the technical and manufacturing requirements for assets to be vested in Christchurch City Council.

Final approval is granted to those components of an asset system that fully comply with the requirements.

Interim approval is granted to those components that are either being phased out of production or are subject to time dependent restrictions. See notification time.

Updates are regularly carried out. For errors or omissions, please contact the relevant person in additions to the lists. To be notified automatically of updates, please subscribe to the CSS&ApprovedMaterials-L listserv. See subscription.

This web page contains links to an up-to-date list of approved materials. This list relates to the requirement for materials to be ‘approved', as specified in the Christchurch City Council Construction Standard Specification series.

These materials are approved for installation within the boundaries of Christchurch City to construct assets that will be taken over or maintained by Christchurch City Council.

The selection of materials for installation in a particular location should be undertaken with consideration for the particular design constraints of the project and in conjunction with the criteria set out in the Christchurch Metropolitan Code of Urban Subdivision.

Notification Time

From time to time new materials /products will come onto the market with the intention to replace existing ones. To ensure a smooth change over from the old to the new, a notification time is nominated (normally 6 months) whereby the existing material is approved, but the new replacement material may also be used. This period is intended to assist distributors / suppliers to run out old stock. During this time, the new material will be designated with an ‘interim approval' status.

At the end of the notification time, the ‘interim approval' becomes ‘ final approval' and the redundant material is no longer approved and will be removed from the list.
