Ferry Road - south side works

Update

What

Woolston Village upgrade: we’re streetscaping along the south side of Ferry Road.

Why

We’re upgrading Woolston Village and part of Ferry Road. This will make the village a safer and more attractive place to walk, bike and drive.

Where

We’re working on the south side of Ferry Road, between 592 and 646 Ferry Road.

When

Work will start on 22 February 2021 (some minor enabling works will start the week beginning 15 February) and is expected to be completed by mid-April 2021 (weather dependent). Work will be undertaken between Monday to Sunday, 7am to 6pm.

What are we doing?

One streetscaping team will start work on the south side of Ferry Road at the entrance to 592 Ferry Road. This team will steadily work east and be joined by other teams as work finishes on the north side of Ferry Road.

  • We’ll remove and rebuild the kerb and gutters, making the road narrower in some areas and wider in others
  • We’ll rebuild the road shoulders and will pave and asphalt the footpaths
  • We’ll install new street furniture, cycle stands, and rubbish bins, and build the garden and tree beds which will be planted next winter

Traffic, parking and pedestrians

  • Free public parking is available behind Woolston Library
  • Another option is to park on Glenroy Street and follow the signs to the shops as there is a temporary walkway from Glenroy Street to the community library
  • Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times
  • Bus stop 15548 next to Ferry Indians will temporarily close while we do this work. A temporary stop will be made available on Ferry Road further towards the city
