Simeon Quay – half bridge replacement

We are replacing an ageing half bridge with a new retaining wall to support the road on Simeon Quay.

We maintain our bridges and retaining walls across the city to make sure they are safe and work effectively.

South side of Simeon Quay – adjacent to 2 Simeon Quay, Lyttelton.

Work will start in February 2021 and is expected to be completed by July 2021 (weather dependent). Work will be undertaken Monday to Sunday, with both day and night works.

The contractor is Hunter Civil Ltd. Phone 03 381 7094 between Monday to Friday.

  • The work includes demolishing the existing half bridge, constructing a new concrete retaining wall and partial road re-construction.
  • Work will be undertaken 24/7, with both day and night shifts in place:
    • Day works: Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm
    • Night works: Sunday to Friday, 7pm to 6am

 Impact of work

  • There will be noise disturbance, particularly during the demolition phase
  • Some evenings Simeon Quay will be reduced to one lane, with stop/go traffic management in place. This is likely to cause delays overnight, particularly for west bound traffic coming from the tunnel and heading along Simeon Quay
  • A temporary queueing route will be set up for west bound traffic (heading towards Governors Bay and Naval Point), in case of heavy queueing demands
  • The queueing route will be along London Street, between Dublin and Canterbury Streets, on night shifts only – when traffic may be reduced to one lane
  • Some on-street parking will be restricted for safety reasons

 Coleridge Terrace retaining wall repair

  • This will be carried out from January 2021 until late June 2021. Work will be be undertaken between Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm
  • The east end of Coleridge Terrace, by Dublin Street, will be closed to traffic. Access to Coleridge Terrace will be from the west end, by London Street
