Catherine and Maronan Streets – road closures

What

Woolston Village upgrade: we’re installing new drainage pipes and streetscaping along the south side of Ferry Road.

Why

We’re upgrading Woolston Village and part of Ferry Road. This will make the village a safer and more attractive place to walk, bike and drive.

Where

We’re working on the south side of Ferry Road, between 642 Ferry Road and 672 Ferry Road, and at the entrances to Maronan Street and Catherine Street.

When

Work will start on Monday 28 September 2020 and is expected to be completed within 10 weeks (weather dependent). Work will be undertaken between Monday – Friday, 8 to 6 pm.

What are we doing?

From Monday 28 September, we’re shifting work from the north side of Ferry Road to the south.

We’ll work between 642 Ferry Road and 672 Ferry Road, and will temporarily close the entrances to Catherine Street and Maronan Street, one at a time for up to five weeks each. Maronan Street will close first, from Monday 5 October 2020.

  • We will put in new drainage pipes and sumps (drains) and repair exisiting sumps (see map for locations).
  • We’ll also remove and rebuild the kerb and channel (gutters), creating new ‘build outs’ (road narrowing features which encourage vehicles to slow down) at the entrances to Catherine and Maronan Streets and outside 670 Ferry Road (the location of the new Kea crossing for the school).
  • We’ll rebuild the road shoulders (edges of the road) and intersections and will pave and asphalt the footpaths, including putting in new feature pavers.
  • We’ll put in new traffic lights and build a new paved and asphalted pedestrian crossing.
  • We’ll also install new bike stands and rubbish bins and build the garden beds which will be planted next winter.

Looking after private property

  • We’ll protect private fences, gardens and buildings if needed while we work next to them.
  • Our work will sometimes be dusty and messy, but we’ll clean up when we are finished. We thank you for your patience and understanding while work is taking place.

Traffic, parking and pedestrians

Maronan Street and Catherine Street

The entrances to Maronan Street and Catherine Street will close one at a time while drainage work and road reconstruction work takes place.

The street that we’re not working on will remain open and detour routes will be in place. Businesses, customers and residents on Maronan Street and Catherine Street will have vehicle access to their properties at all times.

Ferry Road

At times we may need to restrict access for short amounts of time to your driveway on Ferry Road. We will speak with you beforehand so you have time to move your vehicle onto the street.

Pedestrian access

Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Bus stops

Stop 15582 (outside the Holy Smoke building) is temporarily closed because there is no room for buses to stop next to our work site. The closest stop is now stop 43418, outside number 682 Ferry Road.
