We’re building a cycleway and upgrading the intersections.

Why

Our network of cycleways are making it safer and easier for people to cycle. More people cycling eases the pressure on our roads.

Where

Riccarton Road, Middleton Road, Field Terrace and Ilam Road intersections, Riccarton.

When

March 2021 to late September 2021. Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We are building a cycleway and upgrading the intersections. We will be completing storm water, sewer, and water supply work. We'll also be working on new kerb and channels, raised thresholds and landscaping, drainage work, traffic light installation, new traffic islands and linemarking. 

Field Terrace (March to July 2021): 

  • Sewer replacement, new road layout at the Riccarton Road intersection and a new threshold at the Middleton Road intersection.
  • Traffic management - diamond set-up. Works down the middle of the road and cars guided to side.

Middleton Road (March to July 2021): 

  • Sewer replacement, new road layout at the Riccarton Road intersection, new cycle-way installed, landscaping and streetscaping.
  • Traffic management - two way from Field Terrace to Suva Street. One way from Field Terrace. Traffic down middle with left only at Riccarton Road.

Ilam Road (March to August 2021): 

  • Sewer replacement, new road layout at the Riccarton Road intersection, new cycle-way installed, landscaping and streetscaping.
  • Traffic management - one way from University Drive.

Middleton, Riccarton and Ilam Road Intersection (March to August 2021): 

  • Sewer replacement, water main replacement, storm water replacement, new road layout including traffic lights and islands, new footpaths and green surfacing.
  • Traffic management - two way traffic flow with lane shifts.
