Madras Street from St Asaph St to Kilmore St

The Multi Media Communications Santa Parade 2019 is being held on Sunday 8 December 2019. 

The event is being held along a 1.2 kilometre stretch of Madras St, from St Asaph St to Kilmore St. 

The following road sections will be closed during this event. 

  • Madras St (Moorhouse Ave to Salisbury St)
  • Kilmore St (Barbadoes St to Oxford Tce)
  • Latimer Square East (Hereford to Gloucester St)
  • Tuam St (Manchester St to Madras St)
  • High St (St Asaph St to Tuam St)
  • St Asaph St (Barbadoes to Manchester St)
  • Ferry Rd (Ferry Rd to St Asaph St)

Madras St (Moorhouse Ave to Tuam) will be closed from 8 am to 5:30 pm.

Madras St (Tuam St to Salisbury St) will be closed from 1 pm to 5:30 pm.  

To avoid significant delays, avoid east-west travel through the CBD, use either Bealey Ave or Moorhouse Ave.

For northbound travel, through the CBD, please use the following routes from Moorhouse Ave:

  • Montreal St or Fitzgerald Ave.  

For southbound travel, through the CBD, please use the following routes:

  • Fitzgerald Ave, Durham St or Barbadoes St. 

Avoid using Manchester St or Colombo St unless this is your destination.

This event is expected to be very popular. In order to make sure you enjoy the parade in all its glory, it is essential that you plan your journey. 

Car parking will be at a premium and will fill up fast. A number of parking buildings and public car parking areas are available in the City. The Christchurch City Council's Central City web page(external link) has a range of helpful hints to make getting into and out of the City an easy experience. 

Please consider parking your car near a suitable bus stop and catching public transport into the City.  

Plan your journey by bus by using the Metroinfo(external link) website. Extra buses are being made available to cope with expected demand.
