Waste Management Plan 2006

Our quality of life, both now and in the future, is affected by the way we manage our solid, liquid and gaseous wastes. Waste minimisation and the efficient use of our natural resources are fundamental to a sustainable way of life and to the future well being of our residents and our environment.

This Waste Management Plan establishes a vision, goals and targets for waste in the City. It also provides actions that aim to advance on the targets. This Plan is focused on solid waste, and updates the 2003 Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan and the 2004 Waste Action Plan. This 2006 Plan incorporates both strategy and action planning into a single document for ease of use.

A new revised draft waste minimisation and management plan, as required by the Waste Minimisation Act 2008, will be prepared during 2012.  The development of the new plan will include a statutory consultation phase which will afford stakeholders and interested parties the opportunity to make submissions.  It is expected that the new updated plan will be operative early on in 2013
