Christchurch Visitor Strategy 2007–2017

The Christchurch Visitor Strategy was developed through a collaborative partnership between the Christchurch City Council, Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism, Canterbury Development Corporation, visitor industry representatives and Ngai Tahu.

The strategy development process commenced in February 2006, when 80 visitor industry representatives took part in a series of eight Focus Groups to identify key impediments to the sustainable development of tourism in Greater Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. An Industry Advisory Board evaluated the Focus Group results and ranked the key projects and impediments.

The Visitor Strategy Steering Group (Christchurch City Council, Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism, Canterbury Development Corporation) agreed the vision and strategic goals of the Strategy in May 2006. A draft Visitor Strategy was released for consultation in October 2006, and the Christchurch City Council approved the final Visitor Strategy in August 2007.
