Swimming pools, fencing of – definition of "immediate pool area"

That the Council adopt[s] the following revised policy in respect of the fencing of swimming pools:

1.
          (a) No part of the fence should be more than 10 metres from the edge of the pool.

(b) An area outside the immediate pool area which could be used for children's play should be available.

2. Lawn areas or paved areas to accommodate a mobile barbecue which could be used for barbecues in association with a pool may be classed as "immediate pool area".

3. Vegetable gardens cannot be classed as "immediate pool area".

4. Vehicle manoeuvre areas cannot be classed as "immediate pool area".

5. That the Council maintain[s] its commitment to inspect all pools within the city and ensure compliance by 30 June 2003, and to re-inspect all pools every two years.

6. That the Council amend[s] the Council's Fencing of Swimming Pools Policy definition of 'immediate pool area' to include item 5 as follows:

"Lockable spa pool covers do not constitute the immediate pool area for the purposes of this policy."
