Community Outcomes 2006-12

What are the Community Outcomes?

As a community, we have identified nine outcomes that are important for the well being of the city.  These form the people’s vision for the city:

  • A safe city
  • A city of inclusive and diverse communities
  • A city of people who value and protect the natural environment
  • A well governed city
  • A prosperous city
  • A healthy city
  • A city for recreation, fun and creativity
  • A city of lifelong learning
  • An attractive and well designed city.

About Community Outcomes

These Community Outcomes belong to us, the people of Christchurch. The Council has led a process to find out what we as a community wish for Christchurch both now and in the future. Individuals, including you, as well as many groups and organisations, will need to work together to achieve these outcomes. A group of outcome measures or indicators has been developed to track our progress towards the outcomes we want.

The Community Outcomes were developed through community consultation in 2006. They will be reviewed in 2012.

While the Local Government Act (2002) makes it clear that the whole community is charged with identifying and progressing the Community Outcomes, it is the Council’s role with the agreement of relevant groups and organisations, to monitor and report progress. Monitoring is expected to be ongoing and reporting is expected once every three years.

Ongoing monitored Community Outcomes indicators are shown on the pages for each outcome. These pages report on the headline and key indicators as well as their associated Standards for Success, for each of the nine Community Outcomes for Christchurch. The Standards for Success tell us what we would expect to see if progress is being made in each outcome area. These have been identified through research and consultation on the Community Outcomes.

Monitoring progress

The Local Government Act 2002 requires the Council to monitor progress toward achieving the Community Outcomes stated in its Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP).

More detailed information about the Community Outcomes monitoring programme including what monitoring is, what the indicators are, the structure of the programme, and the layout of indicator sheets, is available through the about the monitoring programme page.
