What are the issues?

Some assumptions have been made about the future potential use of land in the South-West to enable the basis for an analysis of urban growth issues.

A series of land-use growth scenarios were prepared, ranging from the status quo (where no further development occurred) to full urbanisation of the study area. One option appeared to be the most appropriate to test, based upon population and employment projections.

The Phase 1 Report on the Basis for Assessment [PDF 1.9MB] provides more information about the history of South-West Christchurch as an urban growth area, the growth options considered and possible staging of land development.
