The game will be the culmination of Paint it All Black, a week of festivities and fun with the emphasis on rugby. Canterbury people will be getting behind the All Blacks and celebrating their heroes, blacking out their schools and businesses, testing their own rugby strengths and getting caught up in rugby fever.
In a measure to help fans celebrate the game, between 5pm and 11.30pm. on Saturday 7 August streets from Cathedral Square, down High Street along Ferry Road, Moorhouse Avenue and around the AMI Stadium will be closed to traffic so rugby fans can walk to and from the game.
Mayor Bob Parker says the walk down Rugby Road is a great opportunity for locals and visitors to get together and celebrate the spirit of rugby. A range of celebrities will join the throng and many rugby greats, old and new, will be walking through the streets.
“Meeting and walking together to the game is something that we will be encouraging for all the big international games coming up in the future.’’
The action will kick off at 4.30pm in Cathedral Square and there will be plenty of prizes. All people need to do is text and enter to be in the draw. The party continues when Amazing Race’s Phil Keoghan will lead people off down Rugby Road to AMI Stadium
A detailed traffic management plan will be in place and there will be no on-street parking in the closed-off areas. Free parking will be available from 4.30pm Saturday 7 August until 10am 8 August at
