By-election to be held next year in Akaroa for third Community Board member

30 August 2010

A by-election will be held in Akaroa early next year because only two candidates have put their names forward for election for three positions on the Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board.

There are five positions in total on the Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board, with three representing Akaroa and the other two Wairewa.

Electoral Officer Clare Sullivan says Pamela Richardson and Leigh Hickey have now been elected unopposed to the board for Akaroa.  A by-election for a third Community Board member will be held in the New Year. The date of the by-election is still to be confirmed.

Nominations closed on Friday, 20 August for the election, which will be held on Saturday 9 October.

Three candidates – Stewart Miller, Mario Downes and Bryan Morgan - have put in their nominations for the two Wairewa positions on the board so these will be contested in this year’s election in October.
