Nominations for the 2010 Christchurch Civic Awards close at 5pm on Monday 9 August, 2010.
The awards are a chance for the Council to recognise some of the people who give their time and energy on behalf of others and who have made a significant contribution to their community while doing so.
With a week to go until close of nomination, the Council is calling on people across the city not to miss out in nominating their local heroes.
“The Council would like to know of the silent stars in your community who have achieved great things, have worked tirelessly in the community, or have gone above and beyond what is expected of them to make things happen,” says Manager Marketing, Richard Stokes.
Last year 14 awardees were selected for their contributions to community services, Antarctic education, migrant communities, sports, education, music, social welfare, horticulture and youth leadership.
Any individual or organisation can be nominated for an award. Categories include recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural affairs, religious studies or others, usually of a voluntary nature, that helps to further the vision of Christchurch outlined in the Council’s long-term community plan
The Civic Awards, to be presented in December, recognise the people who give so much of their time and effort to the community and encourages recipients to continue their outstanding efforts to bring about positive change in the community, says Mr Stokes.
The Christchurch Civic Awards are separate from the Community Services Awards offered by the individual Community Boards of the city.
