Plans for northern intersection – have your say

20 July 2010

Christchurch City Council is seeking public feedback on plans to alter approaches to the Gardiners Road/Sawyers Arms Road intersection in north Christchurch, to slow traffic and reduce the likelihood of accidents.

The proposed plans include narrowing parts of both roads and relocating speed signs on Gardiners Road.

They are the first step of a staged approach to addressing safety concerns about the intersection and the Council is asking for feedback by 5pm, Monday 2 August.

Submission forms are available from Civic Offices on Tuam Street, Papanui and Fendalton Service Centres; by visiting www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay or contacting the Consultation Leader, Mary Hay, on 941-5410.

An information evening will be held at the Papanui Club from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Wednesday, 28 July. Members of the project team will make a short presentation and be available for questions.

The second step to addressing concerns about the intersection is to research issues with the intersection and the surrounding road network, to determine whether other improvements are required.

Council staff are monitoring traffic flows and looking into traffic behaviour and feedback from the community provides valuable information.

The public is being asked to note any issues on survey forms also available from Council offices; via the website or by contacting Mary Hay. These are also due in by 5pm on 2 August.

The submissions and survey forms will be considered by the Shirley/Papanui Community Board and Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board and a decision is expected in early September.
