Public amenity signing policy was adopted by Council on 25 May 1992.

That as a matter of practice the following public amenities be signed in accordance with the Transit New Zealand Manual on Traffic Signs and Markings. The Traffic Manager is responsible for administering this policy.

Group I amenity signs

Group I signs include metropolitan facilities that would automatically qualify for signing:

  • Information centre toilets
  • Car park
  • Airport
  • Railway station
  • Arts Centre
  • Art Gallery
  • Botanic Gardens
  • Cemetery
  • Crematorium
  • Hospital
  • Library
  • Museum
  • Refuse station

Group II amenity signs

Group II signs include local amenities where some discretion on signing (due to isolation) is required:

  • Post office
  • Service centre
  • Citizens advice bureau
  • Community centre
  • Recreation centre
  • Sports club
  • Shopping centre
  • Church
  • School
