What is an agrichemical collection?

The agricultural chemical collection is a programme set up by the Council, Environment Canterbury and the Ministry for the Environment to offer a free collection of old/unwanted agricultural chemicals. This is to prevent stockpiling or inappropriate disposal of chemicals that could contaminate the environment.

Chemicals collected include:

  • Unwanted or unknown pesticides, including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides etc…
  • Animal remedies
  • Fertilisers that contain DDT, Aldrin or similar pesticides
  • PCP (pentachlorophenol)

Detergents, disinfectants, asbestos, used oils, paint, batteries, empty containers, household hazardous wastes and explosives will NOT be collected.

For more information see the link below.

Please note the deadline to register for the agrichemical collection is (officially) 25 January 2008. Registrations can still be taken up until 5 February 2008, but absolutely no later than that. There won't be any more free agrichemical collections in Christchurch/Banks Peninsula after this year's collection.
