If I live in a rural area, am I entitled to official Christchurch City Council Real Recycling Crate(s) and Rubbish Bags?

Yes. You are entitled to an annual allocation of rubbish bags if you live within a kerbside collection area. Check your rates account to see if you pay for the service.

Each rateable property is entitled to two recycling crates for the collection of domestic recycling. Recycling crate(s)can be collected from any Council Service Centre.

Please do not put your recycling in cardboard boxes as this is a health and safety issue. The boxes absorb ground moisture and the bottoms of the boxes become unstable and contents fall out when lifted. If you need an extra crate, you can obtain these from your nearest Council Service Centre.

For any extra crates, e.g. lost or stolen crates a charge of $12 per crate applies. For damaged crates, take the crate to your nearest City Council Serivce Centre and this will be replaced free of charge.

Leave the recycling crate and rubbish bag as close to the road as possible without actually being on the road. If there is a kerb outside your house place the crate and bag right on the edge of the kerb.
