Can I book a tour of the Botanic Gardens?
Guided tours of the Botanic Garden are available:
Individuals: Daily between September and April, 1.30 - 3.00 pm. Friends of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens provide daily guided tours at a cost of $5.00 per adult, children under 15 - free. There is no need to pre-book. Tours depart from outside the Botanic Gardens entrance nearest the Museum.
Groups: Guided tours by a Christchurch Botanic Gardens staff member can be prebooked for larger groups at a group cost of $150 for a one hour tour. Contact the Botanic Garden Information Centre to arrange a booking.
Senior Citizens: Guided tours by a Christchurch Botanic Gardens staff member can be pre-booked for groups of senior citizens. Senior citizen visitors arrive in the Rest Home van and the driver is replaced by a Botanic Gardens staff member who drives the Rest Home's vehicle around the Gardens while giving a guided commentary. These tours last for half an hour and are at a total cost of $20.00 per vehicle (approx. 10 passengers). Contact Brian Appleton to arrange a booking.
School groups: Guided tours by a staff member of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens can be prebooked through the Transport and Greenspace Unit's LEOTC (Learning Education outside the Classroom) programme.
Monthly tours: Friends of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens also take a guided tours through the Botanic Gardens. These tours leave from the Information Centre on a Saturday afternoon at 2.00 pm.
These tours do not need to be pre-booked and details are available in the seasonal 'What's On' leaflet and in local newspapers. Charge is $5.00 per person.
Individuals - Section Curator's Tour: This is run monthly on a Tuesday at 12.15 pm. Note: This tour departs outside Cunningham House. A section curator from the Botanic Gardens will lead a specific tour focussed on their section or speciality. This is free of charge. This tour is designed for people wanting more detailed information on the specific topic. The tour details are available from the Botanic Gardens Information Centre.
