What are the health warning signs at the Estuary , Sumner and Scarborough beaches for?

Eleven signs placed on or around the Estuary and Sumner and Scarborough Beaches are to warn the public:

  • of the dangers of eating shellfish from the whole of the Estuary and Sumner and Scarborough Beaches
  • that there may be a risk for those taking part in water contact recreation in the Estuary. The main areas of concern are Humphreys Drive and in the middle off Southshore.

All water samples taken from the ocean beaches are within internationally accepted guidelines for recreation. However Sumner and Scarborough beaches cause some concern and we are advising people not to eat shellfish from those beaches.
