What is happening about the Lyttelton Marina?

There is a Project Steering Group set up looking at the whole scheme.At this stage the funding for the "public good" part of the Marina projects is in 08/09 and 09/10.

The Council has completed a mass clean-up of Lytteltons Magazine Bay Marina helping to improve the safety and appearance of the area.

The improvements include;

  • Potholes being removed from parking area
  • The initial entrance to the tolled parking area being sealed
  • The green growth around the public toilet block being tidied up and bark chip being laid around the plantings
  • A new cleaner boundary being marked between the tolled and non tolled area of the slipway
  • Repairs being made to the slipway and the jetty, including water blasting the slipway, bringing the damaged slipway back to a functional three lane slipway and replacing vertical jetty fenders.

    The new bollard and cable fencing establishes the area of the car park and this combined with the chip sealing, and removal of the stockpiles has had a significant impact on the area as a whole.

    Aside from the physical improvements, the "tidy up" should also ensure a more controlled and safe traffic flow for both cars and boat trailers.
