Can I take shells from the beach?

You can take shells or other beach material (excluding sand) as long as the beach is not a protected site.

If the beach is not a protected site you are allowed to take shells and other beach material provided that:

  • you do not use machinery or explosive devices to do it
  • you do not remove more than half of a cubic metre in a day
  • you do not remove more than 2 cubic metres of material in a year
