Can I take seaweed from the beaches?
Yes - the casual collection of small amounts (able to be carried off the beach by hand) of stranded seaweed debris e.g. Sp Hormosira, Durvilia antarctica for garden compost, etc is permitted.
However, permits are required for any commercial activities by a number of authorities e.g. ECAN, MAF and on commercial Sp Gracilaria etc.
