How long after starting my building project do I have to complete the work?

Building Consents: Under the New Zealand Building Act 2004, a building consent has a limited life of 2 years (24 months). Building work must commence within 12 months, and be completed within 2 years of the building consent being granted.

If you will not be starting or completing the work within the required time, you will need to request an extension of time from the council.

The extension of time request should be in writing and the fee attached. Refer to link to Fees Schedule. There is also a link providing information on how to obtain an extension of time.
