Am I able to view a property file i.e. property/building details/history?
The Council holds property information for permitted or consented work that has been applied for and/or approved.
The following information could be captured on a property file. Any permits or consented work dating back 30 – 40 years approximately. Drainage information relating to any consented work. Resource Consent information Correspondence relating to that property. People involved with permits or consent work may be recorded, ie architect, designer, builder, plumber, drainlayer etc. Site plan and/or floor plan depending on age of property
You may want to view this information if you are interested in purchasing a property or just want to know the history of the building on a property.
NOTE: Sometimes plans are not held on file for the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s. Usually if a house was built in the 1990's we have the information.
In the 1980s a lot of plans were scanned onto microfilm. These can be copied onto a hardcopy.
Always check with the Service Centre that they have any records in the property file. There may be some costs payable and a delay of 1-5 days for copies of any information held on the property files, if copying is required by an external provider.
The plans will be stamped with a copyright stamp.
Property files are held in Civic, Linwood, Sockburn, Lyttelton and Akaroa offices.
N.B. Files for Civic or Fendalton area are held off-site. Please contact Customer Services Info Line. It takes up to 48 hours to retrieve the file.
