When do the gates close / lock in the parks?
Gates in Council parks and reserves are closed between the times listed below.
These times are intended as a guide only and may vary due to urgent callouts.
Note:
Many park gate closures are administered by ADT Security - check below. When a vehicle is locked they will charge a callout fee of $40.00 which must be cash, unless stated below.
NZDT represents NZ Daylight Saving Time being summer hours and NZST represents NZ Standard Time being winter hours.
Styx Mill Reserve gates are closed between:
NZDT: 9.00 pm - 8.00 am (Daylight savings)
NZST: 5.30 pm - 8.00 am

Bottle Lake Forest Park - Waitikiri Drive Carpark gates are closed between:
NZST: 11.00 pm - 7.00 am
NZDT: 11.00 pm - 6.00 am (Daylight Savings)

The Groynes gates are open from 7.00 am each day and close depending on the month of the year:
January: 9.00 pm
February: 9.00 pm
March: 8.00 pm until daylight saving ends, then 7.00 pm
April: 6.30 pm
May: 6.00 pm
June: 5.30 pm
July: 5.30 pm
August: 5.30 pm
September: 6.00 pm
October: 6.30 pm until daylight saving starts, then 8.00 pm
November: 8.30 pm
December: 9.00 pm

New Brighton Beach Carparks gates are closed between:
North Carpark:

South Carpark - Pier Ramp Access (Signs installed)- gates are closed between:

South Brighton Domain Beatty Street Carpark (Signs installed)- gates are closed between:

The Jellicoe Street entrance (ie cricket pitch area) needs to be opened by the booked group - a key will need to be booked and a bond of $25.00 paid to the Cashiers, Civic Offices, Tuam Street, or gates can be unlocked upon request to the Park Ranger. User groups must be responsible for all vehicle access as the Jellicoe Street gate opens up to all of the park.
Halswell Quarry the gates open from 7.30am each day and close depending on the month of the year:
January: 9.00 pm
February: 9.00 pm
March: 9.00 pm
April: 7.00 pm
May: 6.00 pm
June: 6.00 pm
July: 6.00 pm
August: 6.00 pm
September: 6.00 pm
October: 6.00 pm
November: 7.00 pm

Sugar Loaf gates are closed between:

Halswell Quarry, Victoria Park and Sugar Loaf are all administered by ADT Security. Notes are left on the window of any vehicles locked in after hours with instructions on who to call and associated costs.
Spencer Park gates are closed between:

Gates are open from 7.00 am each day and close depending on the month of the year:

May: 6.00 pm
June-July: 5.30 pm
August: 5.30 pm
September: 6.30 pm
October: 6.30 pm until daylight saving starts, then 8.00 pm

Please note there is a 180minute parking limit which applies Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm.

Rose Garden, Lyttelton:
Gates are open from 7.00 am each day and close at dusk (not locked).
Corsair Bay, Lyttelton:
Gates are locked
