Christchurch’s Garden City image is substantiated largely from its more than 740 parks, private gardens, green corridors and a great number of trees found throughout the City.

The urban environment is made up of over 6,000 hectares of green space and 348 kilometres of open waterways. Furthermore, the City Plan protects some 1,800 notable and heritage trees and also more than 1,500 trees are protected as a condition of land development.
