Matariki at the Libraries 2020

Matariki is going digital this year. Christchurch City Libraries is releasing new digital content, from activity sheets to video, craft and blogs, every week of June.

This year Christchurch City Libraries prepares for the rising of Matariki on 13 July.

This is a continuation of a fresh look through old eyes at Māori oral traditions, practices and customs associated with Māori New Year.

This is the fourth year of the Christchurch City Libraries’ reintroduction of Te Iwa o Matariki – the nine stars of Matariki. This year we celebrate all nine stars.

Every week of June, Christchurch City Libraries will release new digital content on our website for you to enjoy and explore, including:

  • Colouring sheets
  • Activity sheets
  • Video
  • Crafts
  • Blogs
  • Te Whata Raki – an interactive world with traditional stories and waiata
