Wetlands - Customised programme

Ranger and students at viewing platform.

Students can discover what lives in and around the wetlands and examine current environmental issues in these areas at Christchurch's wetland Reserves.  These programmes are adapted through liaison between teachers and educators to meet the learning needs and curriculum objectives for secondary students.

Age/level: Year 9–13

Availability: Available year round

Length: From one hour

Possible Sites: The Groynes, Styx Mill Conservation Reserve and Travis Wetland

Cost: Free

Number of Classes: One at a time
(one class = 35 students)

Programme outline

Key concepts
Introduced pests, interrelationships, biodiversity, ecology, current environmental issues (eg: urban encroachment on natural areas, differing views and uses of natural areas).
