Port Hills - Customised programme

The Port Hills Reserves provide a wealth of learning opportunities for your students, from learning about the geology of the Port Hills and its volcanic past, to discovering the many indigenous plant species, to investigating the use of the Port Hills as a tourism and recreation area. Take a journey of discovery in the Port Hills Reserves; you'll be surprised at what you find.

Age/level: Year 9-13

Availability: Available year round

Length: From one hour

Possible Sites: Victoria Park, Sign of the Bellbird, Sugarloaf Reserve, Halswell Quarry

Cost: Free

Number of Classes: One at a time
(one class = 35 students)

Programme outline

Key concepts
Introduced pests, interrelationships, endemic species, current environmental issues (eg: urban encroachment on natural areas, differing views and uses of natural areas).
