ESOL resources

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) resources

Learning how the local community works can be a useful way for people to discover more about their new surroundings while strengthening their language skills.

These practical activities and field trips are designed to help you teach ESOL students about the roles and services of the Christchurch City Council, a territorial council, and Environment Canterbury (ECan) a regional council.

They provide opportunities for students to learn about local government and how the Christchurch City Council operates. They also cover how to use some local services, such as Christchurch City libraries.

All suggested activities and tours can be adapted to the differing needs of English learners, high school students, migrants, people from a refugee background and international language students.
