There are many ways to get involved in your community, from getting to know your neighbours or becoming a volunteer, to having your say on things that affect you and your community.

Here are some ways you can take action to help make your community and Christchurch a more enjoyable place to live:

  • Neighbourhood Week helps you get to know your neighbours by providing support for social events.
  • Community funds are available to help individuals and organisations make a difference in their community.
  • Donate New Zealand helps you to give household items, food and support to good causes. "Don't dump it, donate it ".
  • Join Sustainable Otautahi-Christchurch to learn more about sustainability through regular seminars and network with knowledgeable people who are keen to share and influence way the city develops.
  • Be part of Project Lyttelton and help make Lyttelton a vibrant, fun loving and caring community.
  • Be part of Lincoln Enviro-Town and help make Lincoln a sustainable town of the future.
  • Be part of a Transition Town helping communities move to a low carbon future.
  • CINCH provides a directory of community, sports, hobby and cultural groups and courses in Christchurch.  
  • Volunteering Canterbury provides guidance on becoming a volunteer and lists voluntary organisations in Canterbury.
  • Green Pages New Zealand is a directory of non-government and community organisations in New Zealand.
  • Have Your Say on Council issues, actions and plans.
  • Our Christchurch keeping you up-to-date on local news and events.
  • Canterbury Issues Discussion Forum allows you to participate in online discussions about issues in Canterbury.
  • Our community services section lists other community activities, support and facilities.
  • Help out at your local Community Garden to be rewarded with fruit, vegetables, friends and fun.
