Step 1: Complete an application form
Download and print a City Housing application form [PDF 165KB], otherwise forms are available from any of the Christchurch City Council’s service centres.
A staff member can help you fill in the form if necessary. Please ask if you would like help.
Please ensure you attach the following to your application form:
Income details
Proof of how much you earn (e.g. your employment contract, or income statement [PDF 52KB] from WINZ or ACC and/or your employer).
Identification
Proof of identification (e.g. passport or birth certificate).
Assets
Paperwork confirming what you own (e.g. assets such as money in the bank, property or investments).
Current housing costs
Proof of your current housing costs (e.g. current tenancy agreement or letter from your landlord. If you are boarding, a letter from the person you board with).
Step 2: Attend an interview
City Housing will arrange a time with you for a one-on-one interview at the Council's Civic Offices in Hereford Street. You are welcome to bring a support person/whanau member with you. In some cases we can conduct the interview by telephone or at your home.
Step 3: Confirmation
After your interview, we will assess your final eligibility and suitability for social housing, determine your priority and send you a letter confirming the outcome of your interview.
