Earthquake-damaged pools

16 November 2010

What to do if your pool has been damaged from the earthquake.

Following the earthquake in early September and the subsequent aftershocks, many buildings, properties and even swimming pools, have suffered different degrees of damage.

We do appreciate that if your home was damaged by the earthquake, repairing your swimming pool or fencing may not be your priority, but it is important, and your responsibility, that your pool is made safe as quickly as possible.

What we need to know about your pool following the earthquake:

  1. Is your pool still intact and operational?
  2. Has your pool or pool fencing suffered damage?
  3. Is the pool area safe – barricaded off/temporary fencing/empty?

Advise us by phone 941-8999 or by email : if:

  • your pool fencing is damaged but pool is still useable.
  • your pool is empty and will remain so.
  • your pool has suffered extensive damage and is no longer useable.

*As you will be aware from our previous visit(s), before the 4 September earthquake, the Council charges re-inspection fees. Because of the earthquake, these fees will not be charged for your initial pool inspections and we look forward to working with you to make your swimming pool safe for the summer ahead.
