Building inspections and compliance

Once you have obtained a building consent and have started building, inspections are carried out during various stages of the process to ensure that each stage of your project complies with the building consent and the building code.

Inspector at building site.

You can either book an inspection online or by phoning 941 8888.

After all work has been completed you will need to apply for a Code Compliance Certificate.

If your project is intended for public use you will also need to obtain a Certificate of Public Use.

You are required to obtain a Certificate for Public Use if you intend the public to have access to all or parts of the premises / building (either during construction or on completion) prior to the issue of the Code Compliance Certificate.

A Compliance Schedule is inspection, maintenance and reporting of a specified system for example a sprinkler system., whilst a Building Warrant of Fitness by states that the specified systems have been maintained in accordance with the Compliance Schedule.

A Certificate of Acceptance may be issued for work that required a building consent, but has been carried out without that consent having first been obtained.
