Temporary buildings (marquees, grandstands, stages)

Temporary buildings include marquees, grandstands or stages greater than one metre high.

The Council has a simplified application process for buildings that are erected for 30 days or less. These are typically marquees but may include structures such as grandstands or stages that are more than 1 metre high.

To apply for a building consent for a temporary building please complete the Application Form B-001 and Checksheet B-053 listed below:

Form B-001 application [DOC 1.94MB]
Form B-001 application [PDF 161KB]
Temporary buildings/marquee checksheet (Form B-053) [DOC 493KB]

Marquees

You are required to obtain a building consent for erecting a marquee if:

  • the marquee will be standing more than 30 days
  • the marquee is greater than 100 square metres.

For example, if the marquee is 100 square metres or less, is for private use and will be standing for less than 30 days, then a building consent is not required.

NB: notwithstanding the above, in certain situations a building consent may be required for multiple marquees of less than 30 square metres. Please discuss with a Building Consent Officer to determine whether or not a consent is required.

Multiple marquees

A maximum of three marquees may be included in one application provided the following conditions are met:

  • marquees are on the same property/reserve
  • are for the same duration of time
  • are supplied and erected by the same company/individual.

Fees for marquee building consent

The cost of a building consent for a marquee varies on whether:

  • The marquee is to be erected by a suitably qualified person, whose details are on file with the council and they provide the appropriate producer statement; or
  • If the marquee is to be erected by someone other than a suitably qualified person and / or the council is to provide an inspection.

Building consent fees

Refer to the building consent schedule of fees.
