Amending a building consent

If you wish to change the design of the building that does not comply with the approved plans after the building consent is either applied for or issued, then:

  • If the building consent has not been issued, submit three copies of the amended documents to the nearest Christchurch City Council service centre. These must highlight the intended changes, including a cover letter detailing those changes. We recommend that you contact the processing officer to advise them of your intentions to avoid re-processing.
  • If the building consent has already been issued, you will need to submit an application form for an amendment to a building consent (Form B-003) with the appropriate fee showing the amended details. Approval must be obtained prior to the work being carried out.

Application for an amendment to building consent (Form B-003):

Currently, the prescribed period within which a Council shall issue an Amended Plan application is 20 working days, assuming the application is correctly detailed.

We suggest that the amended details be submitted at the Civic Offices as the Building Inspector's copy of the original documents are held there.

Fees

NB: The cost of processing a building consent is time-based. The quality of the information provided at application will effect the overall fees, i.e. low quality drawings and details will take longer to process and cost more.

There may be charges for additional inspections required for the amended works.

For more information, please refer to the Department of Building and Housing’s publication on a Guide to building consent amendments [PDF 249KB].
