Residents overlook the Botanic Gardens and wider Hagley Park. Many residents call Cranmer Square one of their extended backyards, and the Ōtākaro-Avon River flows alongside the neighbourhood providing more space for recreation and relaxation.

 


Culture and community

The area is home to a well-established community. Proactive neighbourhood champions are involved in the Inner City West Neighbourhood Association(external link).

The neighbourhood has a strong character with lots of well-loved heritage buildings and unique architecture such as the Arts Centre and Art Gallery.

Christ’s College and Cathedral Grammar School are in the neighbourhood, whilst other schools are a short walk away making it a popular spot for families. Boarding houses for Christ’s College students are also in the neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood is popular with hospital workers, and there is short-term accommodation available for hospital patients and their families.
